This post is my big PDA to Kieron Gillen and Jamie McKelvie for making Miss America Chavez so amazing in the current run of Young Avengers. Growing up, I didn’t see many characters who “looked like me” in popular culture, much less ever find one to really love. I didn’t like my crazy hair or the color of my skin because none of the stories I read or movies I watched ever included a girl who matched up to what I saw in the mirror.
So THANK YOU for including this strong kicker of ass in your book! I wish I could convince Reed Richards to send me back in time with a copy so I didn’t have to settle for being Princess Jasmine three years in a row for Halloween. I felt incredibly uncomfortable as a child, worried people might be confused if I tried to dress up as anyone *white* and I LIVED ONLY A COUPLE HOURS FROM THE MEXICAN BORDER.
I didn’t mean to ramble so much in this post, guys. Here’s the tumblr translation for everyone: #YO TENGO MISS AMERICA FEELS
